She extended her closed fist
towards me
Still not making eye contact
But first time ever trying to attract
My attention
Swaying her limbs in awkwardness
I too was excited no less
For today was the most beautiful day
When my patience and perseverance did pay
its reward which came in the form of
a crushed blossom
as she opened her palm
How could I keep calm
Lest I mislay this precious juncture
For today my autistic pupil bared her heart….
In this flurry, I forgot
That in my hand I held
Candy floss, wrapped delicately on a stick
Her favourite pink one….
That she accepted
with a speck of gloss
On her cheeks
While her eyes sneaked a peek
And they did also speak
That she had opened the door
To let me in….
